Dmitry Duyunov on carrying out tasks of national importance and manufacturing
13 五月 2026
The Sovelmash team continues to produce the first batch of angle grinders and other innovative products despite bureaucratic barriers.
Commissioning permit
Sovelmash was required to provide all easements for the entire construction period. The demand cannot be appealed, so the necessary documents are being prepared. Many enterprises in Russia are currently facing delays in commissioning, which negatively affects the country’s economy. The way out is real manufacturing—something Sovelmash is doing by releasing its own products and fulfilling tasks of national importance.
Angle grinder: advantages over competitors
The Sovelmash angle grinder with an induction motor is quieter than its counterparts. It is not susceptible to ferromagnetic dust, unlike Angle grinders with permanent magnets. Information about the first 2,500 W model, which is slated for launch in the coming month, has been posted on the Sovelmash website.
Production volumes
At this stage, up to 1,000 Angle grinders can be produced per month. As for the production of drives for Motylek drones, battery packs, controllers, and chargers will for now be sourced from China. Over time, Sovelmash will be able to manufacture its own controllers, and is currently working on serial production of aero engines. Work is underway on coil insertion and on rotors—after that, initial output can be brought to 5–7 drones per month.
Equipment and tooling
For almost a year, Sovelmash has scarcely been purchasing new machines, focusing instead on restoring and fine-tuning Chinese equipment that arrived with defects. Bringing equipment online means not just switching it on, but making it work: designing and manufacturing in-house tooling. A vertical thermoplastic automatic machine for Angle grinder bushings has been commissioned—it delivers a lower unit cost than a large thermoplastic automatic machine. On a slotting machine, the Chinese oil intake filter was removed and replaced with an in-house one. These are among the latest changes.
Information about the project’s development and opportunities to participate is available on the Roadmap.
